In fact, with today’s guide we will see together how to add Gmail accounts in the main email clients available for computers, smartphones and tablets. I will also explain how to configure Gmail to use two or more accounts at the same time without having to resort to browser extensions (which, as you know, in some cases can also represent privacy risks).

Now, if you want to configure Gmail to use a second account on your computer, connect to your mailbox, click on your photo located in the upper right corner and press the Add another account button in the box that opens. On the page that opens, choose whether to add an existing Gmail address or press the Create an account item .

Once the operation is complete, you can switch from one account to another at any time by clicking on your photo , at the top right, and selecting the mailbox you want to consult from the menu that appears. You can also use multiple Gmail mailboxes simultaneously, in different browser tabs.

If you want to add Gmail account on Windows 10 or add Gmail account on Windows 11 , first right-click on the Start icon present in the system tray. In the menu you see, select the Settings item and, on the screen that appears, select the Account tab , in the sidebar.

At this point, select the item E-mail and accounts and press the Add account button . At this point select the item Google and enter your Gmail address and the password associated with it. Then press the Allow button , type the name to be attributed to the Gmail address when you send messages and then press the Login and then Done buttons .

In case you have an Apple-branded computer, you should know that you can easily add a Gmail account on Mac to send emails, view contacts and some of the other information stored in your Google account.

First, start the System Preferences from the Dock bar or select the System Preferences item in the menu that is shown to you by pressing the apple icon in the menu bar. Once this is done, press on the item Internet Accounts and then click on the + button on the left. So select the Google item and then press the Open browser button .

How to Add Gmail account on Android

On Android smartphones and tablets , you can easily add one or more Gmail accounts directly from the appropriate section of the green robot’s operating system settings panel.

To carry out this operation, open the Settings app that you find on the home screen or in the drawer and select the Account item . At this point, press on the Add account item and select the Google option . All you have to do is simply type in your Google account details to add it to your device.

When you add more than one Google account to Android, you can easily switch from one account to another using the pre-installed Gmail app on your smartphone or tablet. To do this, after starting the app in question, tap on your thumbnail , top right, and press one of the accounts listed to manage your Gmail account.

How to Add Gmail account on iPhone

To add a Gmail account on iPhone or iPad you can follow two different procedures, depending on the app you want to use: Google’s Gmail or Apple’s Mail . To use the latter, you need to add your Gmail account in your iOS/iPadOS settings.

To do this, start the Settings app that you find on the home screen or in the app library and select the items Contacts> Account> Add account> Google . Then enter the access data of your Gmail account and choose which services to synchronize with your device (in this case at least Mail to manage e-mail). By doing so, through the Mail app you will be able to manage all the Gmail accounts configured on your iPhone or iPad.

If you want to use the Gmail app instead, after installing and starting it on your Apple device, press the Login button and set up your first Google account by typing in your login details. To add multiple accounts on the Gmail app , however, tap on the thumbnail on the right of its main screen and press on the item Add another account .

Now, press the item Google and then the Continue button and enter the Gmail address and the password associated with it. After configuring your Gmail accounts, to switch from one account to another, press the thumbnail and choose which account to manage from the list.

Want to add Gmail account to Outlook or any other email client? No problem! I’m here to help you! To configure Gmail in a traditional email client, such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird , you must first activate the use of the IMAP or POP3 protocol on your email account.

In case you didn’t know, the IMAP protocol allows for two-way synchronization of mail, this means that all messages are downloaded to your computer, smartphone or any other device and also remain on the Gmail servers. In addition, any changes made online or in the local mail client are automatically reflected on the other side as well.

The POP3 protocol , on the other hand, is not suitable for use on multiple devices and does not support two-way data synchronization (usually messages downloaded locally are deleted on the remote server): I advise against using it, except in cases exceptional and I suggest instead to take advantage of the IMAP protocol; clearly, the last word is up to you, based on your actual needs and preferences.

To activate the IMAP or POP3 protocol on Gmail, connect to your Gmail mailbox via browser (the one you prefer), typing email.google.com in the address bar and then pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. At this point, click on the button with the gear icon , at the top right, and select the item View all Settings from the menu that appears.

On the page that appears, select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab , activate the option Enable IMAP (to enable the use of the IMAP protocol) or Enable POP for all messages (to enable the use of the POP3 protocol) and click the Save Changes button located at the bottom of the screen.

In the case of the POP3 protocol, also put the check mark next to the item Enable POP only for messages arriving from now on and choose the Archive copy in Gmail option from the drop-down menu When messages are downloaded via POP , so that they are not deleted from the Gmail servers. Afterwards, click the Save Changes button to apply the changes.

At this point, start your favorite email client, start the wizard for adding a new email account and fill in the form that is proposed to you by entering the following information.

IMAP

• Incoming mail server (IMAP): imap.gmail.com, Port: 993, Requires SSL: yes.
• Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com, Port: 465 or 587, Requires SSL: yes, Requires authentication: yes.
• Full name or display name: [your name]
• Account Name or Username: Gmail email address (e.g. name@gmail.com).
• Email address: Gmail email address (e.g. name@gmail.com).
• Password: password in Gmail.

POP3

• Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.gmail.com, Port: 995, Requires SSL: yes.
• Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com, Port: 465 or 587, Requires SSL: yes, Requires authentication: yes.
• Full name or display name: [your name]
• Account Name or Username: Gmail email address (e.g. name@gmail.com).
• Email address: Gmail email address (e.g. name@gmail.com).
• Password: password in Gmail.

If you don’t know how to start the procedure for adding a new e-mail account with the client you intend to use, follow the instructions below.

• Microsoft Outlook – go to the File menu , press Add account and select Advanced options . Then put the check mark next to the item Allow manual account configuration , click on the items Connect > Google and configure the Gmail parameters manually. You can also attempt the automatic account configuration procedure by filling out the form that is proposed to you immediately after selecting the option to add a new account with data relating to your Gmail address.
• Mozilla Thunderbird — click on the Menu button , on the right, go to the New menu > Existing email account , fill out the form that is proposed to you and click on the Configure manually button to enter the Gmail configuration parameters.

As anticipated at the beginning, the configurations for IMAP and POP3 just seen together can also be applied to email clients available for Android (e.g. MailDroid ) and iOS/iPadOS (e.g. Spark , actually also available for Android) and other platforms mobile. Even in this case, you have to proceed by configuring the service using the application settings.
