You recently followed my guide on how to create an email address and created a new email account. Well, congratulations! However if you previously held an account Hotmail and now you would like to know how to eliminate it because you don’t think it could be more useful to you, it is most likely the case that you read this guide carefully. In fact, in the following lines I will explain to you everything you need to do in order to be able to close Hotmail account.
Before you can get alarmed and think the worst, however, I want to reassure you immediately about one thing: contrary to what it may seem, closing Hotmail accounts is a fairly simple operation to perform, even if you are not exactly an expert in IT. In fact, to close Hotmail accounts, it is sufficient to carry out a few simple steps, nothing more, I assure you.
Therefore, if you intend to close your Hotmail account, I suggest you make yourself comfortable and concentrate for a few minutes of your free time on reading this guide. I’m sure that in the end you’ll be ready to agree with me that closing Hotmail accounts was actually a real piece of cake and that at the first good opportunity you’ll have no problem explaining how to succeed “in the enterprise” to all your friends.
In order to close your Hotmail account, the first thing you need to do is connect to the Microsoft account management panel. To do this click here. Then log in to the service by typing in the field Email or phone the address for the Hotmail account you want to close and in the field Password the password associated with it. Once this is done, click on the button Log in and wait for the login to take place.

Now select the item Security and privacy which is located at the top right and then presses on the item Other security settings that you find in the section Safety account on the newly displayed page.

If requested, complete the procedure for verifying your identity by requesting a security code via email or SMS, then click on Submit the code and enter the code you received by e-mail or as a message on your mobile phone in the appropriate field that is shown to you on the screen. Then press the button Submit.

Proceed by scrolling to the bottom of the new screen that is shown to you, locate the section Close your account and then click on the item Close your account.

Now press the button After youput the check mark next to all the options that are shown to you (outlook.com, Hotmail and OneDrive will no longer be accessible, Content may not work as expected etc.) and click the button first Mark and then up end to complete the procedure.

At this point you can say that you are more than satisfied: you have finally managed to close your Hotmail account. If you have changed your mind, however, you don’t have to worry. Taking this eventuality into account, the Microsoft team allows you to recover the deleted Hotmail account within 60 days of performing the procedure for closing it. During that time the account is marked for closure but in reality still exists.
In order to reopen the deleted Hotmail account you will need to be able to prove that you are using the current security info of your account. To do this, simply connect to your Hotmail account on Outlook.com or from any other Microsoft Internet site and click on the button Continue, I want to reopen the account. Subsequently you will have to verify your identity by accepting the receipt of the security code by e-mail or by SMS and finally you will have to press the button end.
Before completing the procedure by which to close Hotmail accounts, however, I suggest you pay attention to some small but important details.
For starters, make sure there are no active subscription services on your account. In the case of active services, closing your Hotmail account could in fact run the risk of being charged for something you will no longer use. To check that there are no active services on your account, click here to connect to the subscription management panel and make sure that any subscriptions are not indicated. If, on the other hand, there are subscriptions, remove them all by pressing the appropriate option.

Also, be aware of any Microsoft or Xbox gift card balances that may be active on your account. If you have any balance referring to gift cards, I suggest you use it before closing your Hotmail account. By not doing this, the balance obtained through gift cards would inevitably be lost when the account is closed.
Another thing you might want to do before closing your Hotmail account is to download a copy of your Outlook.com contacts. To find out how, you can read my guide on how to export the Outlook address book.
