How to make green screen on google Meet
Have you recently discovered that on Google Meetthe video conferencing platform that you usually use for personal and work purposes, there is a function called Green Screen which allows you to change the background of meetings in real time, a bit like what happens in movies when they use the famous green curtain placed behind the actors during filming.
I can confirm that it’s all true: the function exists and you can use it during your meetings using a couple of simple procedures. At one time the Green Screen was not included directly among the functions of Meet, but now things have changed and, even if it is not exactly called “Green Screen”, it has been introduced and allows you to change the background before or during video calls in a way very simple.
In the continuation of this tutorial, therefore, I will show you how to put the green screen on Meet using the function in question on all devices. When you’re ready to delve into the matter, take five minutes of free time and read carefully what I have to say. In no time at all, I assure you that you will be able to use the Green Screen and change the background of your meetings. Happy reading and have fun!

How the Green Screen works on google Meet
The Green Screen (also known as chroma key) is a technique used to replace the background of a video. In its “physical form” it consists of a green cloth (hence the name) placed as a background during a shot which facilitates, at a later time and using special editing programs, the operations to add a desired background.
As I anticipated, come on Google Meetthe platform dedicated to video conferencing and meetings by Googleyou can use this function through the Effects section, so you can directly insert a background image chosen by you from those available or, alternatively, upload one to use for this purpose.
From the tests I’ve done, the use of a green sheet isn’t that essential, as Meet seems to recognize the subject and the background to be modified quite well, but if you’re interested in buying one, you can refer to online stores (such as Amazon ) or some physical store in your area that is well stocked.
If you want to learn more about how the Green Screen technique works, I refer you to reading the guide I have dedicated to the subject.
How to put the Green Screen on Meet from smartphones and tablets
Let’s see first how to put the Green Screen on Meet from smartphones and tabletsso as to change the background before or during video calls in a simple and intuitive way.
Before guiding you step-by-step, however, I want to tell you that to use the function you need to make sure you have a device that meets all the relevant requirements: a device with Android 5.0 or later powerful enough (eg. Samsung Galaxy S9 or later, Pixels 3 or later, etc.) or a device with iOS/iPadOS 12 or later suited (iPhone 8 or later, or Fifth generation iPad or later). That said, let’s proceed!
After starting the Google Meet application on your Android or iOS / iPadOS device, start a video call or join one that has already started (here I explained how to do it) and then follow the instructions below.
- On Android — if you want to change the background before starting or participating in the video call, press the symbol little stars placed in the box where you see yourself, choose it background to use or, possibly, press on the icon (+) to choose a customized one. Then press the button end And participate At the meeting. It is also possible to proceed with a video call that has already started: just press the button (+)choose the background to use or upload a photo to use as such and press on (x) to close the screen you are on.
- On iOS/iPadOS — before joining a video call, tap the icon little stars present in the box where you see yourself and select the background to use, or load a personal one by pressing the button (+). After choosing the image to use as a virtual background, press the button end And participate to the video call. If the call is already in progress, however, always press the symbol little stars present in the box where you see yourself, select a background from those available or load a personal one by pressing the button (+) and choose the photo to use. To conclude, close the box relating to the choice of wallpaper and that’s it.
How to put the Green Screen on Meet from PC
You prefer to act by computer? No problem! The function that allows you to change background on Meet is also available in this case and, unlike what happens in the mobile sector, does not require any particular requirement. The only caution I invite you to use is to access Meet via Chromeas it is the browser on which the service “runs” best.
To proceed, first go to the main Meet page, start the video call or join the one you’ve been invited to (if you don’t know how to do it, read this other guide) and then, if you haven’t taken part in a video call yet, click on little stars present in the box where you see yourself, below.
Now, click on the item Effects and choose the background to use or, if you prefer, click on the symbol postcard (+) to upload a custom one. At this point you are ready to participate to the call by clicking on the relevant button that allows you to do this.
If you want to act during a call, however, you have to click on the icon three vertical dots located at the bottom, select the item Apply visual effects from the menu that has opened and choose a background from those made available by the platform or click on the symbol postcard (+) to upload a custom one. Remember, then, to close the open box by clicking on the (x). Easier than that?!
