In the next paragraphs, in fact, I will explain to you how to share a video on Meet providing you with all the information necessary to succeed in your intent. First, I’ll show you the step-by-step procedure for setting up a new meeting and sharing a video you’ve previously uploaded online, with the option to stream audio as well.
Subsequently, you will find all the necessary instructions to activate screen sharing of the device in use which also allows you to show the videos available on your computer, smartphone or tablet. Preliminary information

If you are wondering if it is possible share a video on Meet, you’ll be glad to know that the answer is positive. In fact, the famous Google service for organizing meetings and video conferencing has an option that allows you to broadcast the screen of your device and, consequently, share any type of file, including videos.
By computer, this option is available on all browsers supported by Meet (e.g. Firefox, Safari, Edge etc.), but only using Chrome it is possible to choose the sharing source, opting for the transmission of a single browser tab, a specific window or full screen. Furthermore, the browser in question also allows you to share the audio of a video in Meetalthough this option is only available for online movies (eg those uploaded to YouTube).
Also from smartphones and tablets, using the Meet app for Android or iPhone/iPad devices, you can share a video during a meeting. Even in this case, however, it is not possible to choose the sharing source and the only option available is to share the entire screen of the device. Also, the shared video plays without sound. Instead, you can use the microphone and thus transmit your voice.

As mentioned in the initial lines of this guide, for share a video on Meet with audio it is necessary to proceed from a computer and use the browser Chrome.
To proceed, connect to the main Meet page and, if you haven’t already done so, log in with your Google account. Now, click on the button New meetingselect the item Start a new meeting now from the menu that opens and, in the new screen displayed, choose the option of your interest from those available.
- Presents: it is the ideal solution for those who need to make a presentation without using their computer’s microphone or webcam. In addition, this option does not allow you to view or interact with meeting participants, and when sharing a video with audio, the person presenting, unlike the participants, does not have the opportunity to listen to what is broadcast .
- Participate: this is the option to start a video conference with Meet. At any time, it allows you to activate screen sharing of your PC and, above all, to quickly switch from a video conference to a presentation (and vice versa), with the possibility of listening to the audio of what is transmitted. While presenting, you can not only view and interact with the participants but also use your computer’s webcam and microphone.
If you have opted for the option Presentson the screen Share your screenselect the item Chrome tabmake sure there is a checkmark next to the option Share audiopress on browser tab you want to share and click on the button Shareto start the slideshow.
To better understand, let’s take a practical example. If you want to share a youtube videos, first open a new Chrome tab, connected to the YouTube main page and search for the video of your interest. Once this is done, go back to Meet, choose the option Chrome tabput the check mark next to the entry Share audio and select the browser tab relating to YouTube. Then press the button Share to start the slideshow and start playing the video you are sharing.
At any time, you can choose to mute the presentation by moving the toggle next to the entry Presentation audio from ON to OFF. In addition, you can quickly switch between sharing one Chrome tab to another (and consequently play different videos without interruptions) by pressing on the option Share this card insteadlocated at the top of the new tab to be shared.
By clicking on the button Stop presentationhowever, you can end the current presentation and start a new one by selecting the option Submit nowwhile pressing on the icon of handset you can also end the meeting.

How do you say? You have started a new meeting by choosing the option Participate? In this case, to share a video to Meet with audio, click the option Submit nowat the bottom right, select the option A tab from the menu that opens and, on the screen Share a Chrome tabselect the tab where the video you want to share is available.
Once this is done, make sure there is a check mark next to the entry Share audio and click on the button Share, to start the slideshow. During the presentation you can also activate/deactivate your computer’s webcam and microphone: to do this, press the icon video camera he was born in microphone placed below.
Again, you can mute the shared video by moving the toggle next to the entry Presentation audio from ON to OFF. Instead, click on the button Stop presentationyou can end the presentation and continue in meeting mode.

If your intention is share a video file on Meet and you don’t need to transmit the audio as well, you can proceed both from a computer (using any browser) and from smartphones and tablets.
In the first case, connected to the main Meet page, click on the button New meetingselect the item Start new meeting now and select the option of your interest among Presents And Participate. Now, if you’ve started a new presentation and are using Chrome, choose the tab Application windowwhich allows you to show a single window of a specific application.
Then open the movie you want to share with a program to view videos, go back to Google Meet and choose the application you just opened. Then press the button Shareto start sharing the video of your interest.
If you use a browser other than Chrome, instead, click on the button Start slideshow in full screento share everything on your computer screen and then open and start playing the video you want to share.

If you started a new meeting by choosing the option Participateinstead, select the option Submit now (bottom right) and choose the voice A window from the menu that opens. Then select theapplication you use to play the video and click on the button Share, to start sharing. On browsers other than Chrome, select the options instead Submit now And Your full screen.
As I anticipated in the initial lines of this guide, even by starting a meeting on Meet in Join mode it is not possible to transmit the audio of a video if it is shared directly from your computer. However, unlike the Present mode and regardless of the browser used, you can continue to use your microphone and comment on the video being played, an ideal solution for all those who need to make video presentations.
Finally, I point out that it is possible to share a video on Meet using the option Cast screen even from smartphones and tablets. Using the Google Meet app, however, it is not possible to create a meeting in presentation mode.

Once this is done, press the icon of three dotsat the bottom right, select the option Show screen/Share screen and press on the item Start presenting/Start Broadcast.
At this point, everything on the screen of the device in use will be shared on Meet: then open the video you wish to broadcast and start playing it.
