Share your screen with Meet is a feature that, during an online meeting or lesson, allows you to show your computer screen, a specific window or a Chrome tab to the other participants.
Before explaining in detail how to share the screen with Meet from a computer, you should know that it is possible to do it in two different ways.
- Participate: By creating a meeting and choosing the “Join” option, you can switch from webcam to screen sharing (and vice versa) at any time. In addition, this mode allows you to use your microphone and view other participants.
- Presents: By choosing this option, you can share your computer screen without using the microphone. Depending on the source chosen for sharing (eg a single Chrome tab) it is possible to transmit the audio of the tab in question. However, it is not possible to switch from screen sharing to the computer webcam or even view the other participants.
Furthermore, I would like to underline that screen sharing with Google Meet is available on all browsers supported by the service (eg Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc.). However, only using Chrome can you choose the sharing source: Chrome tab to share a single browser tab by selecting the one you are interested in; Your screen full screen to share everything on your computer screen or Application window to show a single window of a specific application.
Having clarified this, to start a meeting with Meet and share the screen, connect to the official website of the service and, if you haven’t already done so, log in with your Google account. Then click on the button Log inselect the Google account of your interest on the screen Choose an accountenter its password in the appropriate field and press the button After youto log in.
Once this is done, click on the button Start a meeting and, in the newly opened page, select the option of your interest among Participate And Presents, taking into account what I have indicated in the previous lines. For example, if you are a teacher and you need to share screen with Meet and see pupilsyou have to choose the option Participate and then click on the item Submit now, in the bottom menu, to activate screen sharing. By doing so, you will be able to view all the participants in the left sidebar.
Now, whichever you choose, if you are using Chrome, after activating screen sharing, choose one of the available options from A Chrome tab (If you want to share audio as well, make sure there is a checkmark next to the option Share audio), Your full screen And A window.

Once you have made your choice, click on the button Share to start the broadcast and share your computer screen, the Chrome tab you have selected or the window of the program of your interest. Pressing on the option Meeting detailsat the bottom left, you can copy the meeting link and share it with the people of your interest, while moving the lever next to the item Presentation audio (visible if you’re sharing a Chrome tab) from ON to OFFyou can mute the tab in question.
At any time, you can stop the presentation in progress and choose a new sharing source. To do this, click on the button Stop presentationpress on the option Submit now and choose the source of your interest among A Chrome tab, Your full screen And An application window. Clicking, however, on the icon of the handset located at the bottom you can leave the meeting and end the presentation.
If your intention is share screen with Meet from phone, you’ll be happy to know that the feature in question is also available in the Google Meet app for Android and iPhone/iPad devices. Unlike what is indicated in the lines dedicated to computer screen sharing, however, it is not possible to create a meeting in presentation mode. If you have a device android and you want to share its screen with Meet, start the app in question and, if it’s your first access, press the buttons Continues And Allow (twice in succession) to log in with the Google account associated with your device and allow Meet to use the microphone and camera of your smartphone/tablet.
At this point, press the button New meeting, to create a new meeting and display the related invitation code that you will need to communicate to all the people who wish to participate. In this regard, my guide on how to start a video conference with Meet may be useful.
Now, press on the icon of three dotsat the top right, select the option Show screen from the menu that opens and tap on the item Start presenting. If all went well, you should see the text “Meet will start capturing everything displayed on your screen”: then press the button Start nowto start sharing your device’s screen, and that’s it.
At any time, you can stop screen sharing by pressing the button End presentation. To end the meeting, instead, tap on the icon handset visible below.
As mentioned in the previous lines, using the Meet app it is not possible to start a new meeting in mode Presents. However, you can use this feature for previously started and ended meetings. If you are interested in this option, access the main Meet screen, swipe up from the bottom to view all the meetings organized, and press the button Presents relating to the meeting of your interest.

In the new screen that appears, tap the button Continues and select the option Start now, to start the meeting again and share your device screen. Also in this case, as for the use of Meet from a computer, the microphone and audio are deactivated.

If you are wondering how to share screen with Meet on iPad (or up iPhones), you must know that the procedure to follow is almost identical to what I have indicated in the lines dedicated to Android devices.
First, start Meet and, if it’s your first access, tap the button Continues. Then press the button Okay twice in a row, to allow the app in question to use your device’s microphone and camera, and select the option Log into sign in with your Google account.
Once this is done, press the button New meeting, to create and start your meeting. If all went well, you should see the message on the screen Share to invite others with the invitation link that you will have to provide to all the people who intend to participate in the meeting in question.
At this point, to share the screen of your iPhone / iPad, tap the icon three dotsat the top right, and choose the item Show screen from the menu that opens. In the new screen that appears, tap on the option Start Broadcast And that’s it.

To stop screen sharing, press the button End presentationwhile to end the meeting, tap on the icon handsetdown.
I point out that by accessing the main screen of Meet, you can view the list of all the meetings you have organized and in which you have participated in the past. Pressing on one of these meetings and selecting the option Presentstop right, you can rejoin the meeting in question in presentation mode which allows you to share your iPad screen without activating the microphone and audio.
